No fewer than six people, believed to be peasant farmers, have been reportedly murdered at Abraka and Obiaruku in Ethiope East and Ukwani Local Government Areas of Delta State.
According to a lawyer who broke the news on the social media, the sad incidence that claimed four lives at Abraka and two at Obiaruku happened on Wednesday, January 4, 2017.
He alleged that the murder was perpetrated by suspected fulani herdsmen, adding that two of the deceased are members of his family.

Recall that the herdsmen menace is fast becoming a major challenge that requires the attention of all stakeholders. Although this issue was identified and consequently dealt with during the National Confab that was put together by erstwhile President Goodluck Jonathan, the implementation of the Confab's recommendation has remained encysted in the oblivion.
Earlier in an interview, a former Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Mr. Alkali Baba Usman, noted that herdsmen challenge has become multidimensional such that diplomacy and appropriate approach is needed to wit the situation.
Usman said the main challenge lies in the absence of clear dichotomy in the paths of the farmers, who desire to grow crops, and the herdsmen, who cannot watch their stock staying without food.
Also commenting on the issue, a former member of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Anieke Efemini, suggested that the only lasting solution to the quagmire was the provision of grazing fields for cattle rearers.
